Instead of waiting on fate to work its magic, Beau Garrett took matters into his own hands. He employed the art of matchmaking and hired It’s Just Lunch (IJL). It worked! Happily married for two years, Beau credits IJL for helping him find his best friend, soul mate, and fellow skier, Jesalyn.
Why did you join IJL?
I’d gone through a divorce in 2009, and I lived in a really happenin’ area of Minneapolis called Uptown. Even though I was having a lot of fun, I knew I wasn’t going to meet somebody who I’d want to spend the rest of my life with in that kind of lifestyle. Going out to a bar scene was a crapshoot. Same thing goes for online dating. I dabbled in it, but all my experiences were negative. So I called It’s Just Lunch.
Meeting people should be easy. After all, the world is full of them and they’re fairly evenly divided in terms of gender, height and so forth. But as a review of literature stretching back to cave drawings will tell you, meeting — and hanging onto — the right person isn’t all that easy. This is where dating services come in. They’re not perfect but they’re better than ordering brides by mail or submitting to your mother’s idea of who your perfect match is.
Describing itself as a “dating service for professionals,” It’s Just Lunch also uses a personal counselor approach, hoping to find just the right chemistry in each situation. With offices in major cities, it’s not restricted to a single geographic area. The reviews we’re received at ConsumerAffairs the last few years have been largely positive, like this one from Michael of North Carolina: “By and large I have been satisfied with the experiences gained from the group. The dates have all been delightful, professional women. I have enjoyed my experiences, and have made a connection with one of the women.”
Do Your Own Progressive Dinner
If you’re having trouble deciding on a restaurant, try dining at several. San Diego’s Irene LaCota, chief marketing officer for It’s Just Lunch International , recommends creating your own progressive dinner to add some variety to an otherwise predictable date. “Start with apps at a wine bar, then move to dinner at a nearby restaurant and finish up with desserts at a dessert bar,” LaCota says. You can add more stops by including a pre-dinner cocktail at a trendy bar or ending the evening with post-dinner espressos at a cozy coffee shop. Stick with one dinner theme or choose to mix it up, sampling a selection of various cuisines throughout the evening. Maybe you can’t travel to Italy, Brazil and Hawaii in one night, but your taste buds can.
